Ausgrid-accredited Level 2 ASP electrician in Sydney. Metering, private poles, overhead and underground service connections, disconnections, and temporary power supplies.

Ausgrid-Accredited Level 2 ASP in Sydney

Level 2 Accredited Service Provider (ASP) work covers the electrical infrastructure between the network (Ausgrid) and your switchboard — the section that standard electricians are not authorised to work on. This includes metering, service lines, private poles, and the connection point to the electricity network. Bayside Electrical Group holds Ausgrid Level 2 ASP accreditation, authorising us to perform these contestable works across the Sydney metropolitan area.

Because we're both a licensed electrical contractor and a Level 2 ASP, you get a single point of contact for the entire job — from the network connection through to the final circuit in your switchboard. No coordination between separate contractors, no delays waiting for different trades.

What is a Level 2 ASP?

A Level 2 ASP is accredited by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment to perform "contestable" electrical works — work that was previously only done by the electricity distributor (Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy, or Essential Energy). This accreditation allows qualified providers like Bayside Electrical Group to compete with the network distributor to deliver these services, often faster and at a lower cost.

Level 2 ASP work is classified into three categories: Class 1 (overhead lines), Class 2 (underground cables), and Class 3 (metering). We hold accreditation across all three classes, meaning we can handle any aspect of your service connection.

Electricity Metering

We install, upgrade, and replace electricity meters for residential, commercial, and industrial properties. Common metering work includes new meter installations for completed builds, upgrading from single-phase to three-phase metering, installing solar export meters, replacing damaged or defective meters, and installing time-of-use and smart meters.

All metering work is coordinated with Ausgrid and your electricity retailer. We handle the application process, schedule the outage (if required), install the meter, and arrange energisation. For solar installations, we ensure the meter is configured for net metering so you receive credit for your exported energy.

Private Pole Installation and Replacement

If your property receives its electricity supply via an overhead line connected to a private pole on your land, that pole is your responsibility to maintain. Timber poles degrade over time due to rot, termite damage, and weathering. A leaning or deteriorating pole is both a safety hazard and a risk of losing your power supply.

We supply and install galvanised steel and timber replacement poles, including the foundation, pole erection, cable transfer, and Ausgrid inspection. For new subdivisions and builds, we install private poles as part of the initial service connection. If your pole has been identified as defective by Ausgrid, we can typically complete the replacement within 1-2 weeks from approval.

Overhead and Underground Service Connections

Whether you're building a new home, subdividing a block, or upgrading from single-phase to three-phase power, you'll need a new or upgraded service connection. We handle both overhead (aerial) and underground service connections, including the application to Ausgrid, design and approval, trenching and conduit installation (underground), cable installation and termination, and Ausgrid inspection and energisation.

Underground connections are increasingly preferred for new developments as they eliminate visual impact and storm vulnerability. We install XLPE cables in conduit to Ausgrid specifications, with properly rated pits, marker tape, and compliant terminations at both ends.

Temporary Builder's Power Supply

Construction sites need power before the permanent installation is ready. We provide temporary builder's supply connections — a metered temporary pole with a weatherproof switchboard containing safety switches, circuit breakers, and outlets for construction use. Once construction is complete, we transition the site to the permanent supply and remove the temporary installation.

We coordinate the full process: Ausgrid application, pole installation, metering, and energisation — so your builder can start work without delays.

Service Upgrades and Disconnections

Adding air conditioning, EV chargers, or commercial equipment may push your property beyond its current supply capacity. We assess your load requirements, determine whether a single-phase to three-phase upgrade is needed, and manage the entire upgrade process with Ausgrid. We also handle permanent disconnections for demolition projects and relocations of the point of attachment when buildings are extended or renovated.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a new service connection take?

From application to energisation, a standard residential service connection typically takes 4-6 weeks. This includes Ausgrid design approval (usually 10-15 business days), our installation work (1-3 days on-site), and the Ausgrid inspection and energisation. We manage the entire timeline and keep you informed at each stage.

Who is responsible for the private pole on my property?

The property owner is responsible for maintaining any private pole on their land. Ausgrid owns and maintains the network poles in the street, but the pole carrying the service line from the street to your house (if it's on your property) is yours. If Ausgrid identifies it as defective during an inspection, you'll receive a notice to replace it within a specified timeframe.

Can you convert my overhead supply to underground?

Yes, this is a common request during renovations. We remove the overhead service line and private pole, install an underground cable from the street to your meter board, and coordinate the changeover with Ausgrid. The result is a cleaner streetscape and a supply that's immune to storm damage from falling branches.
